Hi I'm new here and have some question to ask, hope u won't mind.
Why is it when adding HBr (hydrobromic acid) to an alkene mixture, we also added 2 drops of detergent into the mixture.

Liquid hydrocarbons do not dissolve water (hydrobromic acid is about 50 % water solution)

Thanks AWK, does that mean it is an emulsifier between acid (HBr) and hydrocarbons.
