I need some help here :/

In one experiment, an equal amount (0.5 cm3) of silver nitrate was added to three tubes:

 A: 5.0 cm3 of 1-chlorobutane + 5.0 cm3 of water
 B: 5.0 cm3 of 2-chlorobutane + 5.0 cm3 of water
 C: 5.0 cm3 2-chloro-2-methylpropane + 5.0 cm3 of water

The test tubes were then shaken vigorously. In test tube C, it became muddy and when BTB was dropped in the three test tubes, the water phase was stained in test tubes A and B blue, but in test tube C, water phase became yellow.

Explain the results of the reaction mechanisms. (Draw all steps of the mechanism!) Also draw a clear energy diagram of the reaction.

Hardly analytical chemistry, I am moving it to organic.

Millie3: you're going to have to do some of this work on your own.  For starters, tube 3 becomes "muddy", what happens to tubes #1 and #2?  And why does this happen?  What does BTB stand for?  (I'm guessing bromothymol blue, but you might as well be explicit.)  Before you can have energy diagrams and reaction mechanisms, you will at least have to have the reaction figured out.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

If you draw the structures for the three chloroalkanes, it may help you see what is happening.
