Polylactide Biodegradation and Bacteria
« on: May 24, 2012, 03:36:11 PM »
From my understanding of biodegradable "corn" plastic utensils, they are composed of some form of Polylactide.
I'm having trouble understanding what mechanism causes it to biodegrade? Are bacteria for example able to utilise it in someway and break down these corn plastics? Or does it happen through some other mechanism and what does it breakdown into?

Thanks.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.
