Problem Help: Finding Molecular Formula from Mass Percent
« on: June 11, 2012, 12:06:11 AM »
Can someone explain how I should go about solving this? The answer is N2H4O4, but I don't understand how to get that.

Hydroxylamine nitrate contains 29.17 mass % N, 4.20 mass % H, and 66.63 mass % O. If its molar mass is between 94 and 98 g/mol, what is its molecular formula?

Multipy the Percentage values with the Molecular weights and devide by the molecular weight of the Elements.

For a more general approach google combustion analysis and empirical formula.
