Need help analysing titration results.
« on: June 13, 2012, 08:53:21 PM »
I am currently writing up a prac report on a titration aiming to determine the amount of acetic acid in vinegar

Here are the results:

Titre Values (HCl):
   19.0mL
   19.0mL
   19.0mL
Jacob Ralph: 6.3.1 Results for White Wine Vinegar
Jacob Ralph: Titre Values (NaOH):
   25.4mL
   25.6mL
   25.2mL
   25.8mL
   25.4mL
   25.6mL
   25.4mL
Jacob Ralph: 6.3.2 Results for Brown Vinegar
Titre Values (NaOH):
   15.0mL
   15.0mL
   14.9mL
Jacob Ralph: 6.3.3 Results for Apple Cider Vinegar
Jacob Ralph: Titre Values (NaOH):
   9.4mL
   9.5mL
   9.4mL

I need to determine how much acetic acid is in these vinegars. Thanks.

OK, do you understand what titration is?  You've added acid or base dropwise from a burette, I assume.  You know when the indicator changes color or pH meter reads 7 you've neutralized the acid and base with each outer.  That volume will be a molar equivalent.  Do you have some known concentrations?  You will need that for this experiment to make any sense.
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.
