Chemistry Final Help
« on: June 07, 2012, 10:59:49 AM »
Could someone help me out and provide some equations for these questions?  I know how to do conversions and the like, but my teacher never really gave us anything without providing equations to solve with and I'm totally at a loss.

What is the formula of titanium tetrachloride? Of oxygen gas, titanium dioxide, chlorine gas?

TiCl4 + O2  :rarrow: TiO2 + 2Cl2.

Titanium(IV) must be used because chlorine take 1 valence electron to bond, and there is 4 valence electrons. so, Titanium has 4 valence electrons to give and chlorine has 1 valence electron to take per chlorine. I dont really know how to draw on here. but basically the titanium would have an electron on each side. And a chlorine attached to each electron with another electron drawn next to the one of the titanium to make an electron pair.
