Phosphorus and Nitrogen impacts

What kind of impacts can the elements Phosphorus and Nitrogen bring to a river or water body when dumped in them? How does that polluting process occur?

One impact is the growth accelleration of water plants. Phopsphates and nitrates (very common substances in fertilizers) accellerate the growth process of water plants. As a result, the water plants need more oxygen. =>More and more fish die because they don't have oxygen to breath.

The most common phosphates in fertilizers are: Potassium dihydrogenphosphate KH2PO4, ammonium dihydrogenphosphate (NH4)H2PO4, sodium hydrogen phosphate NaHPO4 and calcium phosphate Ca3(PO4)2
