Reaction between KOH and silver paint or photoresist
« on: July 27, 2012, 06:53:25 PM »
Hi guys,

I have a general question on reaction b/n KOH and silver paint, or photoresist.

I am trying to find an organic chemical or polymer to serve as a protective layer on Si wafer against KOH etching, I am considering using silver paint or photoresist.

The silver paint is generally "silver in iso-butyl methyl ketone", and the photoresist generally consists of one or more of the following, PMMA, PMGI, DNQ, SU-8.

Google says ketone will react with KOH but I just want to check with you guys because silver paint and photoresist are easiest to obtain in my lab and easy to clean up.

Thank you very much!

I would assume that the ketone is just a solvent for the paint, so it will evaporate after you paint on your silver, and it wont be there when you add your KOH.

Thanks!

I know this is silly but will Ag react with KOH?

metallic silver should be stable to KOH.  Silver salts like AgNO3 are not, however and would form insoluble silver oxide
