function of KCl

(1/1)

Optolinn:
Hi

can any body tell me the function of KCl in determination of water's pH .

op

gregpawin:
What method to determine pH?  I'd only imagine for ion balancing purposes.

Mitch:
Do you mean Beckman's acidmeter?

Optolinn:
It just an ordinary pH meter with gel electrode. When we measure pH of water, we need to add a drop of saturated KCl solution to water.

Donaldson Tan:
to increase the conductivity of water. water has a rather high dielectric constant.
