Redox Reactions-Identifying Oxidizing and Reducing Agents
« on: September 21, 2012, 08:34:43 PM »
So given the reaction

2Cr + 3Fe2+ :rarrow:  3Fe + 2Cr3+

What is being oxidized? Reduced? What is the oxidation agent? Reducing agent?

So I know that the one that loses electrons is said to be oxidized, and the one that gains electrons is said to be reduced. Would it then be correct to say that  Cr is being oxidized, Fe is being reduced, Cr is the reducing agent, and Fe is the oxidizing agent?

I would greatly appreciate any feedback you can provide, thank you!

You should put the charges on, for example, Fe2+ is being reduced, not Fe.
