Redo reaction question
« on: December 28, 2005, 02:21:46 PM »
Hey there, i was trying to do the following redox reaction and i am not sure how to do it:
CHCl3+MnO4^1- -> Cl2 + CO2+MN^2+
i did the following thing:
MnO4^1- +8H^1+ +5e^1- -> Mn^2+ +4H2O
2CHCl3 +4H2O->3Cl2 +2CO2 +H^1+ +e.
then multipled the second equatyion by 5 and combined the equations.
Is this correct?
Did i do this right?
Thx in advance.

Is your final result identical to mine?
2CHCl3 + 2MnO4^- + 6H^+ = 2CO2 + 3Cl2 + 2Mn^2+ + 4H2O

Oh well, my is identical, but EBAS exports it properly formatted ;)

2CHCl3 + 2MnO4- + 6H+ -> 2CO2 + 3Cl2 + 2Mn2+ + 4H2O
