4C3E/4C2E/3C2E/ werid bonds (extra mole snack!)
« on: October 25, 2012, 12:55:06 AM »
After finding hypervalent molecules in my textbook (PF5, SF6) I went on wikipedia to search. THe explanation was a three centre four electron bond. I searched three centre four electrons on google and there came out four centre two electron bonds, three centre two electron bonds etc.
But there are no explanations I can understand! There are mad drawings of antibonding and bonding orbitals and all that BS@#$ and now I am left with only YOU to help me.

Please reply. Extra mole snack for the first person to reply CORRECTLY.

You will have to read up on molecular orbital theory to understand this. There is a chapter on this in most inorganic chemistry textbooks - the scope of the question is too broad to be answered on the forums. Do some research/reading yourself and we can help you with more specific questions you may have.
My research: Google Scholar and Researchgate
