« on: October 25, 2012, 09:40:30 AM »
How do we convert acetic acid to methanol?I am not seeking an industrial setup;rather a theoretical one mentioning the reagents will do.Thanks.
I am horrible at chemistry.I am always liable to fail my chemistry exams. So, sorry for stupid questions.

You must show your attempt first.  Hint:  What sort of process (oxidation, reduction, condensation, hydrolysis, etc.) is this?

I will give you a clue. The acetic acid must be reduced. What two common reagents can you use to reduce aldehydes/ketones?
