Strongest Battery With Given Materials?
« on: November 07, 2012, 11:15:38 PM »
I need help as I am thoroughly confused as to what would make the strongest battery. I know that I can make a simple battery using Copper and Aluminum with salt water, but is there another stronger battery I could make? The materials given are: Salt, Epsom Salt, Aluminum Can, Hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, Iron nails, copper wire, water, and pencils (elemental carbon.) Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I think a strongest battery must have the highest electrode potential difference between anode and cathode.

Since carbon is an inert electrode, if I used sodium solution as an electrolyte, and carbon as the electrode for part of a galvanic cell, would that work at all?

Start by grouping you materials:  what are electrode materials, what are electrolytes.  With the caveat that you mentioned, that a neutral electrode can let you use an electrode mixed with the electrolyte.
