Need help derive Kinetic rate
« on: November 11, 2012, 02:54:38 AM »
I need help with this problem

Here is my attempt:
a. since k1 and k-1 is fast, the rate limited step is going from the intermediate to the product. So it would be K= k2[intermediate]
b. since k-1 and k2 are fast, the rate limited step is going from the starting materials to the intermediate. So it would be K = k1[NaCN][C2H4O]

I'm not sure if that is correct, it feels too easy for some reason. Any thoughts ?

I think you're right. It does seem a bit too easy.
