First of all you should check your copper sulfate and sodium carbonate. You can easily find even traces of iron in your samples.

Yep, there definately is a trace of iron and copper in there. I did an redox reaction with it by reacting copper sulfate with iron, and it may not have been fully cleaned.

Iron can be asily removed fron this solution before further experoments.

What about copper? I cleaned the iron but some of the copper should have stuck.

At the beginning you told us about "copper carbonate and sodium sulphate".

When you removed iron the copper should be in solution. Is your mixture is more complex?

Nope. I simply added blue copper sulfate and iron fillings, and got copper powder sticking stubbornly onto the sides (did not wash it cleanly off) and iron sulfate solution. Nothing else. After I poured the iron sulfate into a crystalling dish and removed most of the copper I washed it, but some of the copper still stuck. Only a few black spots, though.
