Aromatic Character using Huckel Rule
« on: December 11, 2012, 02:23:12 AM »
Hucke Rule states that " Any Cyclic, planar and Conjugated compound containing (4n + 2)∏ electrons, where n = 0, 1, 2...

I have the following question:
What does Conjugated means?
I read that it means alternate single and double bonds.

And how to calculate the number of pi electrons in a structure.
Is it that a double bond has 2 pi electrons and triple bond has 3 pi electrons?

Thank you

Yes conjugated means alternating double-single bond and they can exchange each other. Best example Benzene.

Yes double bond has two pi and triple bond 4 pi-Electrons
