Redox queries on electron transfer
« on: February 03, 2013, 09:25:44 AM »
When can we use electron transfer to explain the redox reactions? For example, in this Wikipedia link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redox#Examples_of_redox_reactions it appears that they wrote half equations to explain electron transfer even though HF is covalent.

Also, 2FeCl3+H2S --->2FeCl2+HCl+S occurs, if we write out the half equation, it would be 2Fe3+ +2e->2Fe2+ and H2S->2e+2H+ +S so how should we explain H2S's reduction in terms of electron transfer? Thanks for the help :)
