I am a grad student I've recently stumbled into a number of roadblocks in my research and ability to analyze data as a result of an utter lack of programming and electronics knowledge/skill. I want to learn both but my program in analytical chemistry has very weak course work (does not offer an electronics course) and the lead supervisor for the electronics shop left the school 2 years ago (leaving no one who knows electronics int eh department). Taking a course in electrical engineering and computer science would be highly inefficient as well since they are not focused on the practical aspects.
Anyone else have similar experiences? What do I do about this? Taking the time to learn this through other departments would almost certainly drain my time spent on actual research.
