Does Oxygen react with Fluorine?
« on: January 27, 2006, 09:20:09 AM »
Does oxygen react with fluorine? If such reaction occurs, what are the oxidation numbers of F and O in such compound. eg. HOFl HOF2.. Please draw these lewis structures.

I'm not sure about it, but I think that F2O2 exists too.

Please visit
http://cwx.prenhall.com/petrucci/medialib/media_portfolio/23.html. Picture of HFO2. Is this exist? How could F get the oxidation number of +1?

There is an HCO2, but I can't find anything on a HFO2.  Which diagram is it? (as in, what number from the top)

Perhaps it has to do with its stronger electronegativity and inablility to hold a +1 oxidation.
