What is the identity of this sugar?

Is it d-idose or d-altrose? Im not sure about carbon #4. does it point up or down? in the picture is the l-structure. I think it is d-idose because when changing the L structure to the D structure in a fisher projection you switch everything.

It is none of those.

Try again - it might be easier to convert the structure to the linear form - it makes the sugar easier to recognise.

This was only my hint for comparison - google images show also Haworth projections of furanoses.

d-galactose i figured it out. so why C4 pointing down? is the fisher projection showing C5 and C6 or is C5 bonded to the O on the furanose?
