need help with enzyme kinetics homework
« on: March 08, 2013, 05:21:51 PM »
Suppose an enzyme alters the ΔG‡ of a reaction from 52 kJ mol-1 to 27 kJ mol-1.
How much faster will the catalyzed reaction proceed at 300.6K as compared to the
uncatalyzed reaction? Show your work. Remember: at 300.6K, RT = 2.5 kJ mol-1.

a.
If the enzyme in (a) is exposed to a mixed inhibitor, would you expect the
rate-enhancement to change? Why or why not?

It is a forum rule that you must show your work.  Do you know what a mixed inhibitor is?  Do you have a conceptual idea of what ΔG‡ is?

OK, good, but you still need to show your attempt at these two problems.  Forum rule.  Do you know any equations involving ΔG‡?  When you add a mixed inhibitor to an enzyme-catalyzed reaction, what do you observe?

Then open your book or notes and check them.

delta g =-RTlnkeq

also ln k= lnQ- delta G double dagger/ RT.  I just cant figure out how to setup up the formula correctly for the first part in order to plug in the numbers.    i know its the arrhenius forumula but cant seem to figure out how to use the info given.  can you help by suggesting a formula which i can plug in the number s ( i learn backwards usually..)
