automotive "clear coat" and carcinogens
« on: March 18, 2013, 09:18:06 AM »
Hi my question in short form is I was wondering if I can use this product on cell phones I am selling, or if it is known to cause cancer or do any harm if it makes contact with skin?

Below are the details on what I am talking about: I am refurbishing some cellular phones and on this particular model I am working with, there is a frame that has a chrome finish to it, which scratches up very easily. So I was trying to find a way to make them look better, and I found if I soak the plastic part in isopropyl and put it in the ultrasonic machine, it removes the chrome paint. Then I paint the frame with rust-oleum high performance enamel and finish it off with automotive clear coat.

I was wondering if this poses any hidden danger such as cancer or anything once dry? Since this area goes near the users face. It is not touching the face directly since the keypad and front lens are mostly touching the face but since it is on the edge of the phone it is posable it will touch the persons face every now and then.

Below are links to the info sheet on the clear coat and hardner, which also has the product data sheet link on the page:

Here is a photo of what the phone looks like-

I also know this may not be the best place to post this, so if anyon has any other forum they could direct me to for an answer that would also be appreciated.
