Reactions with anionic boron as product
« on: April 27, 2013, 07:12:24 PM »
Any one know of a reaction (or reactions, if known) that produce anionic Boron?

I'm a physicist, so I have no idea.  Thanks for the help.

What is meant with anionic boron.

Boron can react with other metals like Magnesium to Mg3B2, here boron is anionic.

Or do you mean Borate. BO33- the anion from boric acid.

Or yet another possibility, something like phenyllithium reacting with (Ph)3B to give a formally negative boron...
