Looking for (flying) sources
« on: February 02, 2006, 06:22:42 AM »
Currently I'm using "SciFinder" or "ISI web of knowledge" to look for scientific articles about organic chemistry. But is there any other databases I can use in my search? Wich one is the best for my use? Is there any organic chem look-up-book of some sort with references?
No single thing abides, but all things flow.
Fragment to fragment clings, and thus they grow
Until we know and name them.
Then by degrees they change and are no more
The things we know.

MDL Crossfire might help if you're looking up information about a specific reaction or substance.

SciFinder (ChemicalAbstracts) is the best database to find information about organic chemistry.
Hope you are aware that SciFinder also have the possibility to draw chemical substances and reactions. I find this tool very helpful.

There is some other databases like "ISI Web" where you can find information. ex Scopus and PubMed

Ask your local library about reference-books. If I remember correctly Beilstein and Chemical Abstracts are reference book. But I think most of the information in these book have been digitalised. It's a lot easier (and faster) to search databases than use referencebooks.
