Catechol borane and disiamylborane
« on: April 27, 2013, 06:14:58 PM »
Hello, I just joined this site and this is my first post. I've heard great about this site and im pretty excited about it.
Okay so Catechol borane and disiamylborane. A terminal alkyne will always be converted into an aldehyde, but what about a non-terminal alkyne such as a 2-alkyne. Will these reagents always convert an alkyne into a ketone, or are they considered a poison catalyst and stop the reaction at the aldehyde? Thanks a lot. Also, using Hg2+ / H2SO4 with a 2-pentyne will produce two ketones right? Since both initial Carbons do not have any H's attached.
