Topic: IUPAC changing the standard for pressure from 1 atm to 1 bar?  (Read 3284 times)

so the title is the question itself. In wikipedia it says that "in 1982 the IUPAC has recommended that the standard for atmospheric pressure should be harmonized to 100,000 Pa = 1 bar" why is that? why did they change the standard to be 1 bar instead of 1 atm? and what was IUPAC's reason behind this? I'm just curious...  :)

I think it is because SI-standards . 1 bar = 105 N/m2
