Independent equations in a multi unit reactor
« on: September 26, 2013, 06:03:23 PM »
Hello,

I am having difficulty knowing how many independent equations are present in one unit of a multi unit reactor, as well as finding overall amounts of independent equations, and therefore cannot successfully do Degrees of Freedom Analysis.

What is it that I am supposed to look for with a reactor unit to find the number of independent equations? Is it just look at the number of streams going into the unit and coming out, and looking at the components?

So for example, if there are two streams, one has A, B, and C, and the other has A and D, coming in and one stream coming out, you can write four independent equations (A, B, C, D), or maybe 5 including the overall? I guess I don't understand how to determine the number of independent equations.

Thank you
