Synthesis of 1,4-di-t-butyl-2,5-dimethoxybenzene
« on: February 19, 2006, 01:48:16 AM »
i just recently did an experiment on the synthesis of 1,4-di-t-butyl-2,5-dimethoxybenzene... we first reacted 1,4-dimethoxybenzene, t-butyl and sulphuric acid together... the reaction there i get (i think we get the product from it... correct me if i'm wrong please)... but then after that, we added water, mixed it, and then methanol... I don't quite understand what adding those do... =S can someone help me out pleasee?  ???

I'm thinking maybe it's added to get rid of the excess sulphuric acid?? or maybe it has to do something with the acetic acid that was used as a solvent... or maybe getting rid of the possible side products like 2-t-butyl-1,4-dimethoxybenzene??
