RSC UK Chemistry Olympiad 2006
« on: February 21, 2006, 06:49:40 PM »
Hi!

I'd be interested to know if anyone else took this test and what they thought of it.

I couldn't finish it and left out the whole of Q4 on the decomposition of copper(II) sulfate. :(

The synthesis of ViagraTM question was easy and quite annoyingly unchallenging!

Well I got a silver certificate, but 2 marks of a gold :(, if I had just one more minute I could have got 4 more marks >:(!
At least there is some comfort in that I got more than both my classmates scores put together (one them is excellent at math (full marks at math and further math AS-level) and the other got almost full marks in chemistry AS-level (I got less than him, but still a high A)) although it feels bad to say it!

It'd be nice to hear how anyone else did, especially if they did really well! ;D

Well I got a silver certificate

Congrats!

I was one of about 30 winers in Poland, back in 1981 :) Hard to tell how it compares to your silver.

Thank-you :)

Being in the top 30 in Poland is a huuuuuge acheivement and a lot better than my silver! In the UK the top 68 or so got gold certificares, so I imagine I was probably in the top 100 if I was 2 marks off gold (the paper was out of 78). However, the population of Poland was probably half what the UKs is now hehe ;D!

If anyone wants to do the test I've attatched it. REMEMBER: no cheating and you've got to do it all in 120 minutes! ;)
If you want it marked you can either ask me to or I'll post the answers on here.
