Number of peroxide linkages

Is there any formula to calculate number of peroxide linkages in the given chemical formula of a compound.
I read it somewhere, but now I can't recall it. It'd be grateful of you to help me.

I'm not sure you'd be able to tell just from the formula. Is C2H6O2 ethylene glycol or ethyl hydroperoxide?
