How can I get rid of pyridine from my product?
« on: September 19, 2013, 07:23:10 AM »
First post :)

Did a reaction with DCM as the solvent and pyridine as a base. Got good yield and Clean H-NMR but still have traces of pyridin. Tried to have my product under vacuum for 24h but still lots of pyridine. How can I get rid of pyridine >:(

Re-dissolve it in DCM and wash with copper sulphate solution until you get none of the dark blue complex formed. Sounds like one wash may be ok in your case.

Dissolve the contaminated product in DCM and do a couple of washes with aqueous HCl.  As long as your product isn't too basic, acid sensitive or water soluble, it should wash out the pyridine as the HCl salt and leave your product behind.
