Which compound is most soluble in water?
« on: September 19, 2013, 01:36:26 PM »
1. CCl4 or CHCl3
2. CH3OH or C6H11OH
3. NaF or MgO
4. CaF2 or BaF2

1. What is the least soluble in water?
 CH3(CH2)2CH2OH
 CH3(CH2)4CH2OH
 CH3(CH2)6CH2OH
 CH3(CH2)8CH2OH

2. Which is the most soluble in water?
 CH3(CH2)2CH2NH2
 CH3(CH2)4CH2Cl
 CH3(CH2)6CH2Br
 CH3(CH2)8CH2I

I know the answers for them, I just don't understand the reasoning behind them. I was basing it off polarity, number of OH and NH2 groups, longest C tail, and number of Hydrogen bonds but they still don't make any sense.
