using stoichiometry with gas law
« on: October 23, 2013, 11:39:52 AM »
Consider the reaction: N2(g) + 3H2(g) ------ 2NH3(g)

36.4L of N2 are reacted with unlimited Hydrogen at STP. After the reaction is complete, what volume of NH3 will be present if the temperature rises to 125C and the pressure rises to 250 atm?

i really having trouble trying to find the pressure Ptot=

can someone please show me how to setup this equation, i know its using ideal gas law and stoichiometry

i think i got it....is this it?

1.0L N2 reacts with 3 .0L H2 to produce 2.0L NH3
36.4L N2 will produce 36.4*2 = 72.8L NH3 at STP
STP conditions are 273K and 1.0atm

Calculate volume at 125°C = 398K and 250atm
Equation:
P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2
250*V1 / 398 = 1*72.8/273
V1*250* 273 = 398*1*72.8
V1 = ( 398*1*72.80) / ( 250*273)
V1 = 0.42L

The volume of NH3 will be 0.42L
