need help balancing a tough equation
« on: March 03, 2006, 08:51:01 PM »
I've been spending a long time trying to balance this but it never works.   ???

The reactants are zinc and nitric acid.  The products are zinc nitrate, ammonium nitrate, and water.  I think I got the formulas right and the names of the reactants and products were given to me.

Zn (s) + HNO3 (aq) yields Zn(NO3)2 (aq) + NH4NO3 (aq) + H2O (l)

I tried looking for the equation by searching on google but couldn't find anything.  btw, I don't know what redox equations are (redox kept coming up on google).  I'm just trying to get the equation so that I can use it for a reaction stoichiometry problem.
