By combustion analysis, a 10.68g sample of a compound that contains only carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen is found to produce 16.01g of carbon dioxide and 4.37g of water. The compound has a molar mass of 176.1g/mol. Determin the molecular forumla of the unknown compound.

1.the mass of carbon
2.mass of hydrogen
3.mass of oxygen

4.moles of C
5. Moles of H
6. Moles of O

7. Emperical Forumla
8. Molecular formula of unknown sample..

I would appreciate some help. Just to find the Carbon actually would be enough.
Finding the mass cause with 3 weights its really weird and i dotn get what their asking for.
I know moles is mass over molar mass. Its just the mass thats confusing me, i dotn know which formula to use.

in that case, rearrange the equation such that mass is moles times molar mass ;]

clue: all the carbon in the CO2 comes from the compound, likewise all the hydrogen in the H2O coems from the compound.
