Light Absorption Questions
« on: November 30, 2013, 05:17:29 PM »
Hello,

I have a question from my analytical chemistry class concerning  the electromagnetic spectrum and its effects on molecules. What type of light is utilized when one is concerned about the  valence electron transitions of a molecule?  I figure this is visible light or UV radiation, but I want to make sure that is correct.

Thanks

That would be my take as well.

In general when it comes to rotations they are in the microwave range, vibrations in the infrared, and electrons start in the visible (and continue into the X-rays).
