If you count C-C connections in any direction, what is the longest number of connections? Remember, atoms float in space and it doesn't matter how they are written on paper. Molecular models could show you this.

I was not thinking what you thought I was thinking. By longest chain me (and my book) meant the carbon chain which is the principle chain used for naming.

Can you see a 8 carbon chain?
Development Chemists do it on Scale, Research Chemists just do it!
