Iron(II) coordinated with edta4-
« on: December 05, 2013, 09:55:19 AM »
Hello. :)

Is iron (II) coordinated with edta4- low spin or high spin?

I think it's low spin, because even though the oxidation state of iron is only +2, edta is a strong field ligand.

Sounds reasonable, but it may depend on what the other two ligands are (I'm assuming we're talking an octahedral complex here).

Yes, octahedral, though the other ligand is N2 (very weak donor).
