Osmotic Pressure
« on: February 02, 2014, 02:33:07 PM »
Hello,
I was wondering, why does the expression for osmotic pressure : π=iRTc contains the gas constant, if the solutes aren't in the gas phase?

Thanks

R appears everywhere in thermodynamics. I suppose the name has a historical background, but in fact it is a proportionality constant combining energy and temperature, and as such is pretty universal.
