About NMR integration
« on: February 06, 2014, 05:20:55 AM »
I would like to ask a practical problem about 1H NMR integration.

Sometimes, I obtained a pure product (nice NMR spectrum without other peaks in addition to the product), however, the integration deviate from the theoretical.

For example, if I obtain a product which has one aldehyde and one methyl group. I integrate them and I get something like 1: 3.22..

I wonder if there is any SPECIAL reason for this discrepancy. I think my sample is pretty pure.

Getting integrations that aren't perfectly whole integers is normal.  There are a lot of things that go into peak intensity.
