« on: March 03, 2014, 02:26:12 PM »
What types of Mass Spectrometry questions are likely to come up in the exam? Being such a wide subject with many topics I would like to know.

Thanks in advance,
Peace and Love,

Zee.

Hard to tell at the High School level -- what was discussed in your class notes?  What sort of topics and questions are in the relevant chapter of your textbook?
Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

That's a very broad question that is hard to answer but try these out:

1) Name 5 ionisation techniques
2) Describe 4 different types of mass spectrometer
3) What technique(s) would you use for testing a known solvent for impurities and why
4) What technique(s) would you use for testing an unknown organic solid sample and why
5) What technique(s) would you use for testing a protein sample and why
6) What technique(s) would you use for testing a complex mixture of related compounds and why

And there is the most common one (IMO):
Draw schematicly MS and name/describe the parts of it.
