Well, it's not difficult: Permanganate is reduced to MnO2 and Ethanol is oxidized to acetic acid

i heard that reduction to MnO2 occurs in basic medium, whereares in acidic medium a further reduction to Mn2+ occurs instead.
one learns best by teaching
