Energy diagram of E1 reaction

Hi,

I would like to understand why the energy of the starting material is higher than the enrgy of the final product of this E1 reaction :

Starting material(shown in the energy diagram) + conc. H2SO4 with heat  :rarrow: Product(shown in the energy diagram)

This is a reaction that does, in fact, lower free energy.  These kinds of reactions often show what kind of thermodynamic properties?  Thats a hint :).

This is a reaction that does, in fact, lower free energy.  These kinds of reactions often show what kind of thermodynamic properties?  Thats a hint :).

What does lowering the free energy do to the thermodynamic properties of a product?  If a reaction starts with higher free energy and ends with lower free energy, what type of reaction is it.  There is a specific term for it, which is what zack is getting at I believe.

I would think about both enthalpy and entropy.
