Hey everyone, First of all if this in the wrong place, please let me know and i will happily change it, Im new here and im just looking for some advice and help from people far more knowledgeable about chemicals than i am.

Im a fluid artist looking for advice on chemicals that can be used safely together with opposing viscosity's or fluids that when mixed together cause visual chemical reactions that could be manipulated when used in combination with paint.

For example.. Bicarbonate of Soda and Vinegar, Oil and Water.

I hope this is okay to post here and i hope someone can help. And i realize its not a typical chemistry type question but i believe i have exhausted every other way of seeking the information. I have tried using most typical artists materials like epoxy resins and water based paints, oil varnishes with polyurethane varnishes mixed with paints etc, solvents and lacquers too,  but have been searching for some chemical based combinations that might result in interesting outcomes. I just don't know where to look and my research into materials has hit a wall due to my lack of knowledge and understanding of chemistry and biology. Any suggestions and advice would be very greatly welcomed and appreciated.

Thank you in advance to anyone who might know some combinations i could try.

This is quite ambiguous, it is not clear what you are looking for, so you probably won't get any answers.

Really not sure how you can describe the post as ambiguous as i have described in detail what im looking for, what else could there be?

What is

opposing viscosity

What do you mean by

visual chemical reactions that could be manipulated when used in combination with paint.

Could be my English fails me, but I can't make much sense from these statements.

Viscosity is the level of thickness or denseness in liquids

Im looking for chemical reactions that i can use in paints so the reaction takes place, possibly manipulating the paint in unusual ways. think of oil on water for example

When I read your original post all I could think was, "WWYOD?"  I'm not on close terms with her or any other widows of the Beatles, but I'll ask some of the cooler scientists I know if they've seen innovative artworks using science principles.

Hey, I'm not judging.  I just like to shoot straight.  I'm a man of science.

Hi Billnotgatez

Thanks so much for your message, Yes thats my website.

Ive checked out the ferrofluid slime link you added, Its pretty cool but im really looking for something of a more liquid consistancy that can be perhaps mixed with paint so that when combined with another mixture of paint and chemical would react together, Perhaps forcing the paint to distribute the pigment around the canvas. I know its an unusual request and i really appreciate your help.

Ive been looking into nitro cellulose lacquer that dries quickly forcing the normal paint to be moved by the drying process or Borax powder that forces the paint to float on the top of warm water so the canvas can be dipped into the mixture covering the canvas in a fluid style pattern. The way they paint guitars and motorcycle engines.

I hope this helps and thanks again, i really appreciate your suggestions.

Hi David, looked at your website and thought that I might chip in something probably very useless but maybe not.  Potassium aluminium sulphate, which is not difficult to make at all, is used, amongst many other things, for paper marbling.  See here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paper_marbling.  Now I know this is not what you are looking for but maybe it might be of interest or not. You may innovate from here who knows?  Anyway, worth a try.  Good luck David.  I should have added, scroll down to the paragraph: Art.
