dilute sulphuric acid act as reducing agent?
« on: August 11, 2014, 03:41:14 AM »
I learnt the conc. Sulphuric acid is a oxidizing agent and I knew its ionic half equation
But I just learnt that dilute sulphuric acid can be a reducing agent when reacts with permanganate ion
Can anyone show me its ionic half equation

Thank you

Where did you read that? It doesnt make much sence imo, because suphur has 6 valence electrons and its oxidation number in H2SO4 is 6 so it cant be oxidized anymore.
It is however used tohether with permanganate to increase its oxidizing properties
