recrystallization solvent
« on: August 26, 2014, 05:47:22 PM »
I do not know how to select recrystallization solvent.
My product is similar to aminobenzoic acid and dissolves well at room temperature with acetone and methanol.
Does not dissolve well in ethyl acetate, toluene, dichloromethane.
Could you give me some suggestions?

Pick a solvent in which your compound dissolves COMPLETELY when hot, but very little when cold.  Therefore, the formed crystals will be more pure, as the entropic drive is to form ordered crystals and exclude impurities.

A mixed solvent might be the way to go.
