Hello

I've searched everywhere but I cannot find out what happens if you mix phenol and sodium togheter

basically this reaction

C6H5OH + Na =====>  ???

I already know this one

C6H5OH + NaOH =====> C6H5ONa + H2O

but I cannot find the first one

thank u very much ;)

Natriumphenolat.....it should be C6H5ONa, but what does it have to do with the question?  ???

I was wondering if something like that could be possible

C6H5OH + Na =  C6H5ONa +  H+

but I am not sure....I need someone that is

No! In your reaction sodium is oxidized but there is no reduction! This doesn't happen!
Hint: The H atom of the OH group is reduced to elementar hydrogen.
