Overall Rate of reaction Kinectics question
« on: September 19, 2014, 01:58:19 AM »
Hey guys! I have a test tomorrow on Kinetics. Overall I think I am well prepared for this exam, but there is this problem that I am not sure how to go about it.  Please any help will be so helpful!!

Reaction is 3ClO- --> 2Cl- +ClO3-

If you started with an 3.25 liter enclosed reaction chamber with only the reactants from the above equation and after 26 seconds there were 0.543 M of Cl- and 0.627 M of ClO-

a) What is the overall rate of reaction?

b)What was the original concentration of ClO-?

c)What is the concentration of ClO3- after 26 seconds?

I don't know how to solve it!   Thanks!

My understanding is that the initial concentrations of Cl- and ClO3- were zero. If so, simple stoichiometry will do.

Thanks for replying.  I got some rates but I am not sure if they are correct.  I will go to my professor's office hours before the exam.  Thanks a lot!
