Please determine which molecule is more basic
« on: November 07, 2014, 03:10:47 PM »
Hello, I recently got a problem I don't know how to solve. Usually to determine which molecule is more acidic/basic I would look at the conjugate base/acid and see which one is more stable, but here...
CH3CH2OH, CH3CH2O-Na+,  CH3CH2O-Na+

I would really appreciate if someone explained the answer, too.
Thanks!

This question is no different. You must show you have attempted the question (forum rules). For example, what effect do you think the trifluoromethyl group will have on the stability of a nearby negative charge?
